Whether you are using a Del Mar Housing, or any other housing, you should get in the habit of a series of checks and re-checks each and every time you enter the water. This is a similar process to what an airline pilot might go through before taking off.
1. Do another visual inspection: make sure that your drunk buddy didn't knock your housing off of a 2nd story balcony and then not tell you. Look over your housing and make sure that there are no apparent signs of damage. I know you already did this when you were getting your camera and housing ready in the car, but do it again.
2. Double-check the visual seal of the main o-ring.
3. This is now a great time to spit on the port, for those of you who are using a "wet" port. Our belief is that it is most beneficial to complete this step before the housing gets dunked in seawater for the first time.
4. As you are walking out, dunk the camera under a wave or two, and give it another visual check.
5. As you are swimming out, and every so often during your session, give your housing a visual check.
